Professor Shi Quanqi is awarded the "Newton Advanced Fellowship" Foundation of the Royal Society of England.

           Recently, according to the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Royal Society (RS), Professor Shi Quanqi from the Institute of Space Science (ISS) as well as School of Space Science and Physics, Shandong University, is awarded the England Royal Society of Newton Advanced Fellowship in 2019.

           Prof. Shi Quanqi is a member of the peak discipline of the “Space Science and Technology” and the climbing team (first level) of the “Sunburst and its impact on the planetary space environment”. He is also the leader of the magnetic layer and solar wind interaction team of the ISS. He has been engaged in research on geomagnetic physics and space weather, moon and planetary space environment for a long time. Prof. Shi has published more than 80 SCI papers in journals such as Nature Communications, GRL, and JGR. He has been selected as a member of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, the New Century program of the EducationMinistry and other talent programs. Besides, he was awarded the "BASU Early Scientific Research Award" by the American Geophysical Society, the "Fu Chengyi Youth Science and Technology Award" of the Chinese Geophysical Society, and the Second Prize of the Natural Science of Shandong Province.

"Newton Advanced Fellowship" is an international talent project jointly established by the Royal Society, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (also known as " The Talent Project between China and England"),which is used to fund foreign scholars who have achieved certain scientific research achievements in the field of natural sciences and medicine. Through cooperation, visits and training with famous British scientists, the research capabilities and advantages of supported scholars and their teams are hopefully to be further enhanced. Thus, the scholars can serve the development of their country better. The fund enjoys a high international reputation and the recipients are subject to rigorous international peer review. In 2019, after public collection, international review and mutual consultation between the two organizations, a total of 22 applications are approved, of which one is approved in the field of space science.

It is understood that the fund's partner is Dr. Jonathan Rae of the University College London (UCL) (Dr. Jonathan Rae is recently employed as a visiting professor in the University), and is the leader of the Space Plasma Group in the UK Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL, http://www.ucl. Ac.uk/mssl). Mullard Space Science Laboratory has a high reputation internationally. Over the years, it has undertaken the development of several famous international satellite programs and key detection instruments, including CLUSTER and Solar Orbitor, the Venus Express, XMM-Newton and China-Europe cooperation twin-star and SMILE exploration programs. The approved foundation will further promote cooperation between each other in space physics and space exploration.
