Group of Satellite Navigation, Remote Sensing and Celestial Mechanics

The Satellite Navigation, Remote Sensing and Celestial Mechanics group is headed by the PI and Prof. univ. Prof. h.c. Dr.-Ing. Guochang Xu, former long term Senior Scientist of the GeoForschungs-Zentrum-Potsdam (1993-1998, 1999-2014), and National Distinguished Expert of the Chinese 1000 Talents Project, and also headed by Prof. univ. Prof. h.c. Hermann Josef Kaufmann, the former head of the section of Remote Sensing, National Distinguished Expert of the Foreign 1000 Talents Project. The group aims to exploit and build the principle of satellite navigation, remote sensing and celestial mechanics, and has already started lectures and studies about some aspects of these research areas. The group has 1 full professor, 1 foreign 1000 talents expert, two distinguished professors, three adjunct/guest professors, three senior engineers, two engineer, four post doctors, five Ph.D. and five master students. The group has a vast experimental laboratory equipped with various GNSS receivers, GNSS-R, UAV, remote control and communication devices, INS, laser scanner, optical cameras, computational hardware and real-time precise positioning software as well as space mission design software and other utilities as needed by researchers. The group provides an excellent platform of international exchange and opportunities studies abroad, and supports the applications of all science projects and talent projects.

Principal Investigator

Prof. univ. Prof. h.c. Dr.-Ing. Guochang Xu, China National 1000 talent experts, is head of The Satellite Navigation, Remote Sensing and Celestial Mechanics group. He was Senior Scientist of the GeoForschungs-Zentrum-Potsdam for more than 15years, and served as five thousand person plan distinguished experts at China Aerospace Corporation (CASC). Adjunct Professor of University of Neubrandenburg, Germany, GFZ and Berlin Technical University; Chief  editor in Springer Series; Adjunct professor of Chang'an University and Zhengzhou Institute of Surveying and mapping; Reviewer of China youth 1000 talents and Changjiang Scholars; Phd supervisor at the Univ. of Lisbon and Univ. of Copenhagen. Published two books "GPS: Theory, Algorithms and Applications” and “Orbit”. First person that gave the solutions of the second order theory of the perturbed motion of satellite that solved the singular problems in celestial mechanics and set the theoretical basis of on-board autonomous navigation; was responsible for the design of GPS satellite navigation and positioning software at the joint project of GFZ and EU;  participated in the GFZ-CHAMP and Galileo plan projects; participated in Southeast Asian tsunami warning project;  participated in the German high-altitude flight project “HALO”. Current research interest is real time precise satellite positioning, and the derived works of theory solution of N-body problem, and the problem of Schwarzschild singularities solution of Einstein gravitational field equation.

 

Univ. Prof. h.c. Hermann Josef Kaufmann, invited professor at Shandon University, he was former head of the section of Remote Sensing of GFZ, National Distinguished Expert of the Foreign 1000 Talents Project. He is a famous professional at geological remote sensing experts, Germany's Habilitation qualification professor, the current level of technology to more than NASA, he was one of the founders of GFZ and director of the Department of remote sensing. He has served as the executive director of the GFZ Department of remote sensing of earth and published more than 340 papers and more than 80 of them for review.
